I am an attorney; I worked as an unemployment hearing officer and a hearing officer supervisor for the Texas Workforce Commission, serving some of the most underprivileged people in our community. I was also president of the J. J. Seabrook Neighborhood Association, working with neighbors to deal with neighborhood concerns. As a member of the Chestnut Senior Housing Board, I participated in a project to build a low-income senior center from design through the building phase. I was also a board member of the Inter-Cooperative Council and helped establish a student housing co-op called House of Commons. But I believe this race is not about qualifications. We have had plenty of folks get to Congress with supposedly good qualifications and they have sold our policies to big moneyed interests. This race is about a willingness to implement policies that will benefit the people, not the big corporations.
